Indian stock market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), in its latest crackdown on parties involved in the multi-million dollar Initial Public Offer (IPO) scam has stated that gross violation of the mandatory "know your customer" norm (KYC norm) laid down by SEBI for operators and depository participants hinted that the whole incident was not accidental but a calculated move made by opportunists who sought to make a quick profit.

6. SEBI bans 24 players from securities market for IPO scam role
In a move welcomed by market investors, securities market watchdog, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), has categorically barred 24 key stock operators, including bigwigs like Indiabulls, Karvy Stock Broking and Anagram Securities from operating in the stock market and has banned 12 depository participants (DPs) from opening fresh accounts for their "abusive practices" in the initial public offerings (IPOs) of various companies between 2003 and 2005.
