Samsung launches G400 Soul at CeBIT 2008
After successful stints in World Mobile Congress, Barcelona and Mobile Asia 2008, Delhi, Samsung, the Korean mobile phone maker has now launched G400 Soul at the world's largest annual information and telecommunications technology trade show CeBIT, Hannover.
The latest offering, G400 Soul is a full touch clamshell which "inherits the look and feel" of Samsung's flagship product the "Soul," with what the company describe as a "unique premium exterior" and the same Graphical User Interface (GUI) design.
What makes this handset unique is the fact that it has identical displays - both inside and outside. Both of the displays are 2.2 inches QVGA TFT LCD touch screen with 240 x 320 pixel resolutions and 262k colors. They have been made touch-sensitive using the 'haptic technology' for fingertip feedback and the user can access the phone's media, as well as other features conveniently with both the screens.
Operation of multimedia features such as the FM radio, music player, camera, and photo album is possible through the external display as is with alarm clock, digital clock, wallpapers and for SMS/MMS notification too, while more of the bogging, standard phone-centric bits are better done on the internal screen.
The G400 Soul is a fully featured mobile phone condensed in just about 15.2 mm thick body flaunting a high gloss metallic finish. It boasts of a 5 megapixel auto focus camera with features like 4x digital zoom, face recognition, Samsung's Wide Dynamic Range optimization and image stabilization technology together with a smaller camera for video calling.
The G400 also has HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) support with 7.2 Mbps speeds enabling users for video telephony through the sub camera as well as for sharing photos and video albums. The phone also supports Google Mail.
The phone can function in regions with 3.5G network coverage. A tri-band GSM handset, it also supports GPRS and EDGE data though WiFi is still not covered.
Additionally G400 Soul also includes Bluetooth and USB connectivity and a microSD memory card slot for external memory that can store ample amount of image or music files.
The staple GUI experience remains the same but with three different options. Through this feature the users can change the interface according to their personal tastes as the skins are customizable with various options that can be altered such as background images, fonts and colors.
The Samsung G400 Soul will be initially available in Europe from June 2008 though pricing information is not yet available.
