US-based IT solutions provider Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp. has entered into a strategic partnership with Deutsche Telekom's T-Systems business client unit to focus on system integration services.

As part of the deal, T-Systems India, which has about 1,150 staff stationed in Pune and Bangalore, will be transferred to Cognizant, subject to regulatory clearance.

Cognizant will also gain access to T-System's workforce in Argentina and China.

The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

"Today is a good day for Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems," Deutsche Telekom's CEO Rene Obermann said, adding that "Cognizant is a perfect strategic fit."

Reinhard Clemens, CEO of Deutsche Telekom's T-Systems division, said he expected the alliance to improve profitability.

"This new alliance will make global delivery a reality in Europe. Strategically we are the first to give our customers unprecedented access to a new service and delivery model," Clemens said in a statement.

"Our new alliance will open up new opportunities, add significantly to T-Systems' profitability, and give both partners a stronger footing in key vertical industries," he said.

"This alliance will enable us to gain access to strong front-end capability in the German market as well as large European customers by leveraging T-Systems' strong onshore systems integration platforms in Europe," Hindustan Times quoted R. Chandrasekaran, president and managing director, Cognizant, as saying.

According to Chandrasekaran, the alliance would help the firm gain access to key sectors such as automotive and telecommunications, where T-Systems is strong, besides enhancing its capabilities in the German market and providing access to large European customers.
