Indian Govt. clears 6 SEZ proposals
The Indian Government has cleared six fresh Special Economic Zone (SEZ) proposals, August 8, taking the total number of clearances close to 550.
The approval includes the IT major Infosys' proposal of setting up two SEZs near Hyderabad as well as BPO major Genpacts' proposal of setting one in Jaipur.
Enfield Infrastructure has also been given the green signal for an IT zone at South 24 Parganas in West Bengal.
Two in-principle approvals were given to a multi-product SEZ by Ispat Industries Ltd and a Biotech SEZ by Veritas Infrastructure Development Ltd in Maharashtra.
The Board of Approval (BoA) has, however, deferred two proposals from Adarsh Prime Projects and Blue Vision Construction.
In a separate development, the Commerce Ministry has extended the validity of the Reliance Industries' (RIL) Maha Mumbai SEZ.
"The extension to in-principle clearance to Maha SEZ was done by the ministry itself" without referring it to BoA, Commerce Secretary and BoA Chairman G.K. Pillai told reporters.
The initial approval for Maha Mumbai SEZ was extended with a condition that its size should be cut to half at 5,000 hectares.
The Commerce Ministry has also asked Mukesh Ambani-owned RIL to ensure that the land procurement for the project is done with the consent of the landowners (farmers) and no compulsory acquisition should be done by the state government.
As per the original plans, the zone was to be of 10,000 hectare.
